Minister directs regulation of housing schemes near airport

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Brig (retd) Ijaz Ahmed Shah has issued instructions to counter the mushrooming of illegal housing schemes adjacent to the Islamabad International Airport (IIA).

The matter was being discussed in a meeting held to address the problems posed by the unauthorised construction of residential and commercial housing schemes in the environs of the new airport.

The minister insisted that formulation of clear cut rules and regulations was necessary to ensure that no unlawful construction takes place in the area without due permissions granted after ascertaining its feasibility.

He further directed the relevant departments to adopt zero tolerance policy against encroachers, while simultaneously appreciating the anti-encroachment drives being carried out by the district administrations of the twin cities.

Members of the Rawalpindi Administration briefed the minister on their plan to make use of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to efficiently map and track the construction activities going on in the areas in question.
