The buyers would be required to show their CNICs to the registered sales tax sellers. For female shoppers/buyers, producing CNIC of the father or husband is permissible. However, the buyers don’t need to be registered themselves to show their CNICs.

FBR clarifies that such a step aims at documenting business to business transactions to verify dubious buying activities which result in sales tax evasion.

Currently, there are 41,484 registered sales tax sellers who pay taxes. With presenting of CNIC as a condition, not only the tax net would be broadened, undocumented trade activities would also be discouraged.

The sellers will not be held responsible if the produced CNICs turn out to be fake.
