KARACHI: To simplify the biometric verification process and operate their bank accounts, overseas Pakistanis can now provide identity documents like valid Passport, visa, CNIC and National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) as an alternative provided by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) under the new agreement.
This measure was taken by the government after continuous monitoring of the progress of the banking industry with the incorporation biometric verification to take Pakistan out of the grey-list, due February.
After verifying the customer’s signature from its record, the respective bank will accordingly update the NRP status in the customer’s profile.
For non-NPR customers outside the country, the bank may obtain reasonable evidence or proof from the customer regarding his absence from the country including a copy of valid passport, visa, exit stamp, resident permit, etc and the expected date of return.
