CDA Takes Action Against Illegal Water Connections in Islamabad

Islamabad: In a commendable move to address the issue of water shortage, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has conducted a comprehensive action against the illegal water connections, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner-General of the Water Management Wing. Despite the ongoing weekend, the CDA remained resolute in its efforts to tackle this pressing problem.

A significant crackdown was carried out in the vicinity of Bari Imam and Quaid-e-Azam University, resulting in the disconnection of approximately forty additional illegal water supply connections. These connections were promptly dismantled, and water meters were removed.

Although a few connections were reinstalled, a total of around 150 connections were severed. To discourage such unlawful actions, strict instructions have been issued to initiate legal proceedings, including filing First Information Reports (FIRs) and imposing heavy penalties on those found guilty of reinstalling illegal connections.

For several months, Islamabad has been grappling with water supply issues due to the proliferation of unauthorized connections. This has led to a significant decrease in water pressure within the city’s sectors, causing distress for residents and a surge in complaints. However, the recent crackdown has yielded positive results, as the pressure in the main waterline has substantially improved. Consequently, the overall water supply situation in the city has significantly enhanced.

Seizing this opportunity, the Deputy Commissioner-General of the Water Management Wing has issued stringent directives to the staff, emphasizing the immediate disconnection of all illegal connections and the continuation of rigorous enforcement actions. Special attention is being given to severing connections along Simly Road.

Only approved connections that meet the minimum requirements for rural areas will be permitted. A comprehensive policy will be formulated in collaboration with representatives from rural areas, and metered billing will be enforced. Those who fail to comply will face strict disciplinary measures.

In addition to the CDA’s efforts, citizens are earnestly requested to conserve water and, particularly, refrain from activities such as washing vehicles and carpets that result in unnecessary wastage. Any violations will lead to an immediate suspension of water supply, and appropriate legal action will be taken.

To report instances of illegal water connections or water wastage and urge actions against illegal water connections in Islamabad, citizens are encouraged to contact the CDA helpline at 03357775444. The dedicated team of the CDA will promptly respond and take necessary action.
