The NII terminals worth Rs2.78 billion were installed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and were inaugurated by Ambassador of Japan, Kuninori Matsuda and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi.

Along with scanners and terminal buildings, the terminals include image scanning and analysing equipment, waiting room for container drivers, and backup facility for electricity.

Connected directly with Pakistan’s Web-Based One Customs (WeBOC) system, each system has a scanning capacity of 7 to 8 containers per hour. This will cater to a total capacity of 450 containers per day.

Under the project, 60 officers of Pakistan Customs were trained as Image Scanning Analysts for effective utilisation and future sustainability of the project.
