Funds approved for completion of surgical complex at JPMC

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the release of $7 million for the completion of the nine-storey building of Surgical Complex of Cyberknife at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and ordered for the establishment of Cyberknife Satellite Centre in Sukkur.

He presided over a meeting of JPMC Cyberknife and Patients Aid Foundation (PAF) here at CM House. The meeting was attended by PSCM Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi, Head of Radiology, Cyberknife Robotic Radiosurgery and Oncology JPMC Prof. Dr Tariq Mehmood, Patients Foundation Chief Mushtaq Chappra and Shabir Diwan.

The chief minister was briefed by Professor Tariq Mahmood regarding the increasing number of cancer patients in Karachi. He told the CM that Karachi has 67,000 new cancer patients every year and cancer patients from 131 cities are being treated at the Cyberknife facility. He further informed that another Cyberknife was being installed at JPMC at a cost of $4.1 million and will be operational by the end of the year 2019.

The Chief Minister of also apprised of the Tomotherapy project being installed at a cost of $4 million. The unit will be functional along with the 16 machines of Tomotherapy already working. The CM assured the Cyberknife and Patient Aid Foundation of unwavering support.

The chief minister was also told about the ongoing work on Department of Neuromedinices and Stroke Unit. Prof. Dr Tariq Mahmood further informed the meeting regarding the construction of Surgical Complex (SC) at the cost of $35 million. The SC will have a facility of 2000 beds. The chief minister approved the release of $7 million for the completion of Surgical Complex and directed secretary finance to manage the funds.
