SALALAH: Oman’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has announced plans for Future Salalah City, a flagship urban development spanning over 7 million square metres, featuring 12,000 housing units to accommodate approximately 60,000 residents.
Unveiled during a field update in Dhofar, the project will be situated along the picturesque Al-Tawiyyah coastal strip, home to sensitive ecosystems such as coastal lagoons (khors). According to Ahmed al Kamyani, Director General of Lands at the Ministry, the city’s design will adhere to strict environmental and urban planning standards, ensuring harmony between built-up areas and the natural landscape.
To curb urban sprawl, the development will emphasize high-density housing while preserving Salalah’s coastal and environmental character. Comprehensive infrastructure, public amenities, and services are planned to promote sustainable living, family stability, and social cohesion.
The project will also create diverse investment opportunities for the private sector, aligning with the government’s push for public–private partnerships in real estate and infrastructure. Ownership models for residential and commercial properties will be shared in due course.
Future Salalah City is a core component of Oman Vision 2040, focusing on sustainable urbanization, coastal preservation, and economic growth in Dhofar.
