During the meeting, Mayor of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab briefed participants on the finalisation of 183 major roads located within various Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) of Karachi. He said these roads serve as critical traffic corridors and alternative routes that support the daily movement of thousands of commuters.

The minister directed the Municipal Commissioner to accelerate administrative procedures and immediately initiate the tendering process so that the rehabilitation work can begin without delay. He emphasised that the programme will play an important role in upgrading Karachi’s infrastructure and enhancing civic facilities for residents.

Mayor Wahab also informed the meeting that once the road rehabilitation is completed, solar streetlights will be installed along these routes. The initiative will follow the model implemented on Sharae Faisal, where solar lighting has delivered positive outcomes in terms of energy efficiency, cost savings and improved road illumination.

The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Local Government Syed Azhar Shah, Municipal Commissioner Karachi Ibrar Jaffar, Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, along with other senior officials.
