Korea to facilitate Pakistan’s aim for UN Sustainable Development Goal-6

ISLAMABAD: An MoU was signed between the Ministry of Climate Change and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on Wednesday, aimed at helping Pakistan enhance water quality monitoring system in an effort to achieve UN’s Sustainable Development Goal-6.

Malik Amin Aslam, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Climate Change, represented Pakistan while the Korean Ambassador to Pakistan represented the Korean delegation at the signing of the MoU.

KOICA is a grant agency of the Korean government and has implemented various projects related to water, energy and rural development in Pakistan. The project will help greatly in improving water management in the country. The project aims to improve the people’s quality of life by improving water quality parameters and help in achieving the UN’s SDG-6. The ‘Enhancing Water Quality Monitoring System’ program will be implemented at the cost of $7.42 million from 2019 to 2024.

KOICA will provide water quality testing equipment and training to 36 Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) laboratories in Punjab and KP region. In addition, the policy and legislation on water would also be supported through this project.
