Ring Road project intended to ease traffic congestion: RDA chief

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza has said that the ultimate motive behind the construction of the Rawalpindi Ring Road Project is to ease traffic congestion in the twin cities.
In a presser, Murtaza said the project will help people save money that they “often have to spend on travelling.”
He said three mega projects were launched in the garrison city – Kutchery Chowk costing Rs4.8bn, Ring Road worth Rs30 billion, and Rs4bn Defence Chowk.
As per a statement, he said Leh Nullah was polluted due to the dumping of garbage and untreated wastewater in the twin cities, adding that the RDA started the Leh Nullah Expressway project for flood mitigation and environmental sustainability. It is pertinent to state that the project costs about Rs40bn.
Between 2017 and 2018, revenue amassed from businesses in RDA-controlled areas was Rs6.5bn. Between 2018 and 2019, the revenue surged to Rs12.4bn. From 2019 till 2020, the number was Rs13.4bn, whereas from 2020 till 2021, it increased to Rs71bn.
