About , Karachi
Federal B Area is one of the oldest residential area of Karachi, dating back to the 1950s. In 1947, when Pakistan came into existence, Karachi was made the capital city. When civil servants from India migrated to their new country, there was an immediate need of their housing. To that end, an area called as Federal Capital Area (F.C. Area) was reserved by the new government. Residential units surrounding FC Area were more commonly known as Federal B Area or FB Area.
Initially, it was a housing scheme for low-salaried of federal government employees. Now, people from all walks of life reside here. In 1983, when a religious party won local body elections, Federal B Area was re-named Mansoora. During Pervez Musharraf’s period, Federal B Area was re-named Gulberg Town, but to this day, Federal B Area is more commonly used and widely recognized. It is divided into 8 union councils, namely Azizabad, Karimabad, Aisha Manzil, Ancholi, Naseerabad, Yaseenabad, Water Pump and Shafiq Mill Colony. You can get a glimpse of Karachi’s history in this established, much sought-after neighbourhood, with wide streets and old houses.
Federal B Area is divided into 22 blocks, of which 20 form the residential area and two are the industrial area. One of the famous landmarks of Karachi, Mukka Chowk, can also be seen at the intersection of Federal B Area Block 8 and 9.
