ISLAMABAD: After successfully completing phase one, the second phase of construction work of the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) worth $230 million has been launched.
The second phase commenced after ground levelling, soil testing, land boundaries, design details, and walls construction at adjacent properties were completed in the first phase of construction.
Under the second phase of construction, a purpose-built mega permanent station will be constructed.
Scheduled be completed within 3 years, the NGIA is set to become the second-largest airport in Pakistan, connecting the economic hub of Gwadar port city to the rest of the world.
While briefing on the matter, China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC) Chairman Zhang Baozhong informed that the establishment and operationalization of the permanent station will be a leading step in the second phase to boost development activities in the region.
In addition, modern terminal and cargo buildings, communication & navigational projects, air traffic control system, runway, water supply, power supply, HVAC, parking space, residential area, schools and other facilities will also be completed under the second phase of construction work.
Despite the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the construction work was still carried out on the directives of authorities, he further added.
