Islamabad / Northern Pakistan: A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck parts of northern Pakistan on Friday, shaking major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat and adjoining regions. Tremors were also felt in Lahore and nearby areas, causing panic among residents.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the quake originated deep in the Hindu Kush region, at a depth of roughly 120 km.  No immediate reports of damage, injuries, or casualties have been confirmed, and local authorities are currently assessing the situation.
In Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar, residents reported feeling strong jolts, with many evacuating buildings as a precaution. Officials have urged calm and advised the public to stay alert for possible aftershocks. Emergency services have been put on standby to respond if needed.
Regional disaster management agencies and municipal authorities have initiated inspections of critical structures, especially in vulnerable zones, to ensure safety and evaluate any structural impact. Monitoring continues as further updates are awaited.
