Karachi: A seven-member delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) convened with Sindh’s Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, to evaluate the progress of the Karachi Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
During the session, Minister Memon outlined the project’s ongoing challenges, particularly the relocation of underground utilities in high-density areas. He also emphasized the BRT’s significance, as it will connect five major universities and enhance daily commute options for millions in Karachi.
Memon noted that a nine-month suspension during the caretaker government’s tenure significantly impacted the timeline. However, both the ADB and the provincial government reaffirmed their shared commitment to completing the project efficiently.
The Red Line BRT, co-financed by the ADB, is designed to provide eco-friendly transport solutions and ease urban congestion in Karachi. The meeting also touched upon broader public transport initiatives like the Pink Bus Service, underlining the Sindh government’s goal of ensuring affordable and accessible transportation for all.
