ISLAMABAD: The Balochistan government has announced its intention to establish the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) in order to preserve greenery and promote a cleaner environment.
While speaking on the matter, provincial minister Mitha Khan Kakar informed that a bill will be drafted and submitted in the provincial assembly to seek approval to set up the first-ever ‘beautification authority’ in the province.
Once established, the authority will be tasked to set up public parks to provide recreational opportunities, Kakar further informed.
By introducing modern parks and preservation of the environment, the government bids to improve the tourism sector in the largest province of Pakistan and project it as a travel destination.
The proposed PHA in Balochistan would be a younger sibling to the one in Lahore, which was established in 1998 and is responsible for maintaining and optimising public green spaces such as parks, playgrounds and green belts.
Moreover, PHA Lahore routinely organises shows and events to promote awareness about horticulture and generate interest in gardening amongst the public.
