The Punjab government has introduced another major initiative aimed at improving public convenience in Lahore.
As part of the plan, the bustling commercial hubs of Old and New Anarkali, Nila Gumbad, and Bakshi Market — located in the heart of the city — are being converted into pedestrian-only zones. Vehicular entry will no longer be permitted in these areas, allowing exclusive access to pedestrians.
This decision has been taken to address the persistent traffic congestion in these busy business centers, where overcrowded roads have created difficulties for pedestrians, particularly women, and posed challenges for traders in conducting daily activities.
In addition, the government has allocated Rs. 800 million for the rehabilitation of the Shahdara Complex, while another Rs. 370 million has been approved for the restoration of the historic Lahore Fort.
According to an official notification issued by the Planning & Development (P&D) Board, the Walled City of Lahore Authority will now float new tenders to initiate work on these approved projects.
