ISLAMABAD – In a move to tackle increasing traffic congestion and promote inclusive development, the Capital Development Authority Development Working Party (CDA-DWP) has approved several key infrastructure projects during its 76th meeting, held at the CDA Headquarters under the chairmanship of Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman CDA.
One of the major approvals includes the construction of a new underpass at Shaheen Chowk, located at the busy intersection of 9th Avenue and Khayaban-e-Iqbal. Designed by M/s NESPAK, the underpass project is estimated to cost PKR 1.899 billion and aims to ease traffic flow along Khayaban-e-Iqbal. The plan features an underpass for through traffic and a roundabout to facilitate right-turn movements. The project is scheduled for completion within six months.
In another significant development, the CDA-DWP gave the green light to a two-lane flyover at Rawat T-Chowk—where G.T. Road meets Islamabad Highway. Also designed by M/s NESPAK, this flyover will cost PKR 1.803 billion and will provide a signal-free route for traffic coming from Gujar Khan (N-5) onto the Islamabad Highway, improving connectivity for thousands of daily commuters.
Additionally, the CDA-DWP approved the construction of a Christian graveyard in Sector H-8/1. With an allocated budget of PKR 275 million, this project aligns with the goals of the National Commission for Human Rights, aiming to promote interfaith harmony, inclusivity, and improved public health standards in the capital.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Division, Ministry of Interior, Finance Division, CDA Board Members, and representatives of concerned departments and consulting firms.
