Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority has begun a citywide rehabilitation and upgrading campaign, starting with the recarpeting of major roads, restoration of zebra crossings and improvement works across several residential and commercial areas.

The initiative was reviewed in a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa, where Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza and other officials shared updates on ongoing projects and upcoming tasks.

According to the CDA, work on restoring zebra crossings along key highways is already underway, with priority given to locations near hospitals, schools and busy traffic routes.

In the first phase, the Machinery Pool Organisation has started recarpeting major commercial centres such as Blue Area, F-6 Super Market and F-7 Jinnah Super Market. Upgrades in Sector I-14 have also begun, while work in D-12 Markaz is progressing. The authority plans to start carpeting the main and service roads in E-12 during this phase.

The project also includes the repair and replacement of damaged streetlights and poles, the installation of new signage for public facilitation and the construction of speed breakers where necessary.

Officials informed the meeting that sewage and drainage issues in several sectors will be resolved, with particular focus on covering open manholes and improving associated infrastructure.

The CDA stated that the rehabilitation drive is aimed at improving mobility, enhancing road safety and upgrading essential civic services across Islamabad.
