The proposal was presented to the commission at the meeting held on Thursday, by the CDA. Informing that the principal function is carrying out a comprehensive revision of the master plan and not to increase the number of permitted floors and that too without conducting proper research by a consultant.

Increasing the floors would only add more traffic burden, which is one of the concerns.

The original by-laws permitted class three shopping centers to have ground-plus-one floors. The ground floor to be used for commercial use and the first for residential purposes only.

The authority is now seeking approval to add another floor in these markets, increasing the permitted floors to four.

Syed Safdar Ali, spokesperson CDA as confirming the presence of proposed by-laws to the commission, He said that “some members of the commission have privately observed that they cannot make a suggestion on by-laws, etc without a detailed study for which they want another seven months to a year.”
