
Islamabad: Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa, chaired a high-level meeting on Thursday to review the progress of ongoing and upcoming development projects across the federal capital.
The meeting was attended by Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Engineering Nifasat Raza, Member Planning Dr. Khalid Hafeez, the Director General of Procurement and Contracts, senior CDA officials and project directors.
During the briefing, officials shared updates on the construction of electric bus depots and charging infrastructure. It was informed that work on two electric bus depots is nearly complete, with overall progress reaching 97 percent and construction at one site already finalised.
Officials also confirmed that all 21 electric bus routes across Islamabad are now fully operational. The service has received strong public response, with daily ridership steadily increasing. On December 31, 2025, more than 102,000 commuters used the electric bus service.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the Margalla Avenue project, which aims to connect the avenue directly to the M-1 Motorway. In addition, discussions were held on proposed projects including a Convention and Exhibition Centre and a luxury hotel development in the capital.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said promoting the hospitality sector is a key element of transforming Islamabad into a modern, world-class city. He stressed the importance of adopting state-of-the-art designs in all development projects and strengthening the authority’s architecture and planning wings.
Reaffirming the CDA’s priorities, he said improving public transport, developing modern infrastructure and enhancing the city’s overall aesthetics and functionality remain central to the authority’s long-term vision for Islamabad.
