According to sources, the move comes after strong concerns from the hospitality sector when the CDA revised commercial project rates in June, the first update since 2017. Hotel and motel operators argued that the new charges were too high and took their complaints to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The PMO forwarded the issue back to the CDA, which discussed it in a board meeting on October 21 under the agenda “PM directive regarding grievances on Floor Area Ratio (FAR).” Officials said the board supported providing relief to the hospitality industry and suggested that hotels and motels should be charged differently compared to other commercial categories.

The summary has now been sent to the federal cabinet, which will decide whether to adjust the commercial land conversion charges, a move that could provide financial relief to Islamabad’s hotel sector.
