Apart from modernising the federal capital, the smart traffic signals will be used by the authority to analyse the volume of and record the vehicles on the road. Having optical sensors, the signal will then change the intervals between the red, yellow and green lights to accommodate the traffic volume.

According to the initial plan, traffic signals will be restored from Sector G-7 to G-11, along the Kashmir Highway. After assessing the success rate of the programme, all major avenues and intersections of the capital city will undergo the same transformation process to achieve the status of a smart city.
