ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, Capital Development Authority (CDA) decided to develop the second largest park in Islamabad, following F-9 Park at the north of sector D-12 alongside Margalla Road.
CDA’s environment wing has already demarcated the land where the park would be constructed.
A CDA official briefed that out of the total 4000 Kanal land in Zone III, 2000 Kanal will be covered by the project. The land previously had been lying unattended.
The decision came after CDA received direct orders from the federal government to build a new park in the capital.
The new park would be built over an area of 155 acres, the second largest after the renowned Fatimah Jinnah Park, with an area of 750 acres.
An officer from CDA’s revenue directorate said, “After completing demarcation, we have handed over around 2000 Kanal to Park Directorate on Tuesday”. Additionally, 400 boundary pillars will be built around the demarcated area.
CDA management has directed the civic agency wing to prepare the project’s PC-1 to put it forward in the upcoming CDA’s Development Working Party meeting. After PC-1 approval, the tendering procedures for the construction of the park will be initiated.
A CDA engineer revealed that the park would feature a kid’s playing area, jogging tracks, horticulture compartments, and multi-purpose sports facilities.
It is pertinent to add that construction work on Margalla Road is also underway from sector D-12 till G.T. Road Sangjani.
The engineer said, “The road construction work is in full swing and the construction activities are underway near the Shah Allah Ditta area.”
The work is predicted to reach completion in a few months if CDA timely resolves the obstacle of a century-old graveyard falling in the way.
