ISLAMABAD: In a meeting presided by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved seven development projects worth Rs57.78 billion.
Out of the total, two projects with a culminate cost of Rs33.43bn were referred to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Three projects related to the energy sector were presented in the meeting.
The authority granted approval for the construction of 132 kV Grid Station and feeder project worth Rs263.46 million to be established at Kan Mehtarzai, Pishin in Balochistan, extending from the existing 132 kV Muslim Bagh- Khanozai Transmission Line.
Under the 34MW Hydropower Project, the authority approved the Social Development of Harpo Valley & Strengthening of WPO (We are Pakistan Organization) at a cost of Rs255 million, for Gilgit Baltistan.
The project will focus on procuring machinery and tools for the Hydro-Electric Workshop at Skardu, community development work in the Harpo Valley and up-gradation of a dispensary and girls middle school in the area.
The authority granted an extension for the re-tendering of a 10MW Hydropower Project Hanzel Gilgit.
The project is aimed to transmit energy to Gilgit town and surrounding areas via 132 kV transmission line for meeting power and energy requirements of the entire Gilgit district.
A project titled’ Women’s Income Growth and Self-Reliance’ worth Rs710 million was also approved by the CDWP.
Out of three projects related to water resources presented to the CDWP, the authority approved the Water Sector Capacity Building and Advisory Services Project (WCAP) costing Rs4.594 billion.
The two projects referred to the ECNEC after approvals include the Basol Dam Project worth Rs18.68 billion, located at 54km in the North West of Omara Town, Gwadar district in Balochistan. The second project titled the ‘Balochistan Integrated Water Resources Management and Development Project’ worth Rs14.748 billion was also submitted to the committee for approval.
The project will address issues related to water scarcity, water augmentation, salinity, floods, increased poverty in backyard irrigated areas and institutional reforms.
