The constructed facility spread over 40 Kanals and has nine blocks, out of which four blocks have been reserved for male patients, while three have been allocated for women. The facility has the capacity to house over 250 patients.

The facility will operationalise after inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 5, informed officials of the authority.

The construction of the project commenced on March 26 and was scheduled to complete by May 10.

As a precautionary measure against COVID-19, motion sensors were installed at all the doors in the building, which will cause them to open as soon as someone steps close enough.

In addition, the building was designed to be completely airtight, to minimise the chances of any airborne contagion from the spread.

Two officials from the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination and one each from the Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital and the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) were finalised to manage the operations of the constructed facility.

As per an order issued by the Ministry of Health, Polyclinic Assistant Executive Director (AED) Dr Abdul Wali Khan has been tasked to overlook the administrative and financial affairs of the infectious disease centre.

Moreover, Director Inaamul Haq has been given the charge to prepare project concepts (PC) I and II to enhance the centre and its services.
