ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CWDP) approved three healthcare projects worth Rs 11 billion namely Islamabad Cancer Hospital, National Police Hospital and the up-gradation of the Radiology Department at Shaikh Zayed Postgraduate Medical Institute.
According to sources, the projects were given the go-ahead last week. The first project is the construction of Islamabad Cancer Hospital, which will cost Rs 3.40 billion. This decision was made in response to the rapid increase in the number of cancer cases.
The hospital will be built within the premises of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), as currently, the PIMS oncology department is the sole government-run cancer treatment centre in the federal capital.
The establishment of the National Police Hospital is another significant project that was pledged by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal in 2018 when he served as the interior minister.
The project will cost Rs 6.48 billion. Currently, there is no hospital exclusively dedicated to police personnel in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), and they must seek treatment at either PIMS or Polyclinic Hospital.
