Quetta: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Tuesday approved the Balochistan Water Resources Development Sector Project along with several major infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity across the province.
The decisions were made during a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar through video link.
According to officials, Ecnec approved the revised plans for the 109.882-km Ziarat Mor–Kach–Harnai road and the 55.834-km Harnai–Sanjavi road. The committee also gave the go-ahead for a 110-km road project linking the Chedegai border crossing on the Iran-Pakistan border to Panjgur.
The committee highlighted that upgrading Balochistan’s road infrastructure would not only strengthen regional trade—especially with neighbouring countries—but also provide safer and improved travel for local residents.
ECNEC emphasised the need for timely completion of all approved schemes with strict adherence to quality standards.
The meeting was attended by Balochistan Irrigation Minister Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Zahid Saleem, Chief Engineer Design (C&W) Dr. Sajjad Baloch, Chief of Section (P&D) Inamullah Khan, Project Director BWRDSP Sufyan Durrani, and Chief Foreign Aid (P&D) Batool Asadi.
