Economic team directed by PM to create new job opportunities

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday passed the directive to his economic team for promotion and facilitation of the construction sector and small businesses as a primary focus for economic activity and employment creation in the country.

Presiding over a meeting of the government’s economic team, the Prime Minister stressed on the importance of facilitation of overseas Pakistan in sending remittances to the country, saying it is a priority to provide all facilities to domestic investors along with foreign ones.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Khusro Bakhtyar, Minister for Power Umer Ayub, Minister for Economic Affairs Division Hammad Azhar, Advisor on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Advisor on Commerce Razak Dawood, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Chairman Board of Investment (BoI) and Governor State Bank.

The meeting was apprised of the measures in effect for the promotion of small businesses, and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) is being made effective by establishing a board of governors by including expert and active board members.

The Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of SMEDA will be appointed for three years. The prime minister said that improvement of Pakistan’s ranking in ease of doing business is a big achievement and officials of relevant departments deserve congratulations. The prime minister also said that the value of rupee is gradually improving and the stock market has also seen a positive trend.
