Government expenses worth Rs95 billion reduced from budget: Saleem Jhagra

Peshawar: In a post-budget briefing, Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra has said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has managed to bring down their expenditures by Rs95 billion in the first phase of the provincial government.

He said, the total outlay was Rs900 billion of which government expenses were pitched at Rs855 billion. The revenue estimates for the fiscal year 2019-20 were 39 percent higher than Rs648 billion for the current year where an allocation of Rs536 billion was made for the current expenditures while the development outlay was projected at Rs319 billion.

According to Mr Jhagra, development funds for the tribal districts will be utilised for social sectors, economic development, infrastructure and quick impact projects. He also said that the government revenues were projected at Rs900 billion and the province will receive Rs533 billion from federal government including federal tax assignment of Rs453 billion.

The budget for the merged districts has also been raised from Rs55 billion to Rs162 billion. Rs1.1 billion have been allocated for the least developed districts. Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar will be extended to the semi-urban and rural areas of the city while tertiary care health units will be equipped with infrastructure worth Rs7 billion.
