The project was submitted to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and proposed to be executed under public-private partnership mode.

Once approved by the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Authority, to invite competitive bids, the National Highway Authority (NHA) will float tenders to invite the bidders.

The planned project is scheduled to be completed within two and a half years from the targeted date of commencement i.e. November 2020.

After evaluating the Multan-Sukkur motorway project under various PPP modes, the authority announced to construct the project on BOT model – build, operate and transfer mode, and will not require any government subsidy.

The motorway will start from Hyderabad end of the Karachi-Hyderabad motorway and extended to start of the Sukkur-Multan motorway, completing the eastern corridor.
