Govt plans medical city in Quetta

QUETTA: To combat the spread of coronavirus in the province, the government has planned to establish a 50-acre medical city to facilitate at least 1,000 people, announced Balochistan Chief Secretary Captain (R) Fazeel Asghar in the Anti-Corona Core Committee meeting.

Provincial ministers Mir Zahoor Buledi, Engineer Zamarak Khan Achakzai, media personnel and other relevant officials were among the attendees of the meeting.

The land for the proposed medical city has been procured on Sariab Road and will be established within three months. It will be operationalised to tackle every emergency situation.

Depending on the circumstances in the future, the facility will be extended to cater to 5,000 patients.
Meanwhile, the procurement of medical equipment and supplies to tackle the current situation, the chief secretary further added.

In addition, the Sheikh Zayed Hospital has been fully reserved to deal with the patients of coronavirus while wards and isolation units have also been established in other hospitals.

The provincial government has also approved the purchase of laboratory equipment to test 1,000 people daily.
While paying a tribute to the doctors, paramedical staff and those actively participating, he stressed on the significance of taking up the precautionary measures, especially social distancing and personal hygiene to curb the spread of COVID-19.
