Green Line bus service to be operated by Central govt for three years

KARACHI: The Federal and Sindh government has signed a facilitation and implementation agreement, allowing the central government to operate the Green Line bus rapid transit system (BRTS) project for three years after completion.

The jointly managed project will then be handed over to the provincial government.

Briefing on the matter, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar informed that further details regarding the key development of the project will be discussed in the next meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The infrastructure of the project is scheduled to be completed within a year. This was informed in the latest meeting chaired by the PM on Karachi.

Prior to this, an additional Rs6.5 billion were granted by the federal government to lengthen the track by 10km.

The project under Karachi Infrastructure Development Company Limited is set to accommodate 300,000 passengers on a daily basis.

The features of the initiative include over a 20km track providing transportation to various locations and an 11km elevated section.

Moreover, discussions for the capacity building of the Karachi Infrastructure Development Company are also underway by the government for the upcoming mega projects, added Asad Umar.
