ICCI asks govt to reopen all construction-related businesses

ISLAMABAD: To clarify the matters of resumption of all businesses related to the construction industry, Muhammad Ahmed Waheed, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) has requested the government to issue a notification that includes details of steel re-rolling and marble sectors.

Details regarding steel re-rolling, marble and some other industries were not covered in the notification issued earlier by the district administration on the directives of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and Prime Minister Imran Khan. This gave rise to confusion as the business community remains divided over the matter.

Due to this, many materials and items to be used for the construction of projects will be unavailable if all construction-related businesses were not reopened. Hence, opening some industries will not benefit anyone.

In addition, he informed that the traders and industrialists have been directed by the ICCI to fully implement the SOPs issued by the local administration and take precautionary measures in order to avert the spread of COVID-19.
