ISLAMABAD: The federal government is set to inaugurate the Islamabad Information Technology Park on August 14, a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and fostering innovation. According to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the project marks a key milestone in advancing the country’s tech ecosystem.

Spread across 66,800 square meters, the purpose-built facility is designed to support tech startups, freelancers, and export-focused IT and IT-enabled service (ITeS) companies. The modern complex comprises two basements, a ground floor, and nine upper stories, accommodating up to 120 offices for IT and ITeS firms.

The IT Park will feature a dedicated startup incubation center with 15 offices for early-stage ventures and a business support center offering legal, financial, and marketing assistance to resident firms. The facility also includes an industry-academia linkage center aimed at promoting collaboration between educational institutions and the tech industry—an initiative expected to drive research, innovation, and workforce development.

A standout feature of the park is the establishment of Pakistan’s first Tier III Data Center, which will provide high-level data security and uninterrupted power supply—vital for companies handling sensitive digital operations.

“This will be one of the most advanced data centers in the country and a major leap for Pakistan’s IT infrastructure,” said the ministry official.

The Islamabad IT Park is part of the government’s wider strategy to close the infrastructure gap in the tech sector, encourage technology transfer, and increase IT exports. A similar facility is also planned near Karachi airport, as the government aims to create a robust nationwide network of innovation hubs that boost global competitiveness and support the digital economy.
