Karachi Circular Railway track to be cleared of encroachments

Karachi: In regards to the decision of Supreme Court (SC) Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani held a meeting for the revival of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR).

The relevant authorities have been directed to clear off encroachments from both sides of the railways rack within 50 feet limit. Shallwani has ensured of the action to be taken within 10 days and then submitting a report to the SC.

According to the West Deputy Commissioner Zahid Memon, 4.5km from a stretch of 7.5km has already been cleared off encroachments. It is now open for KCR.

MD. Karachi Urban Transport Corporation project director Shaikh Talib Fatah informed the meeting of takeover of KCR from Pakistan Railways (PR) and being handed over to Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA). Once the anti-encroachment operation finishes, the fencing of the track will be done by SMTA. Tenders have already been issued.

Groups settled across the Karachi Circular Railway track had formerly been issued eviction notices in regards to encroachment and a serious violation of apex court’s judgment. Encroachers had been asked to vacate the space within seven days, as per notice “otherwise encroachment shall be removed/ demolished and all expenditures incurred upon shall be recovered from you by all legal means as described in Central Government Land & Buildings Recovery of Possession Ordinance, 1965/ amended 1984.”
