KP Highway Council approves maintenance plan worth Rs1.672bn

PESHAWAR: In the 20th meeting of the Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority (PkHA), chaired by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Pakhtunkhwa Highways Council approved the Annual Maintenance Plan worth Rs1.672bn for the financial year 2021-22.

Out of the total cost, Rs1200 million will be provided by the provincial government, whereas PkHA from its resources will cover Rs72 million.

The highway maintenance plan covers work on 3,000-KM of roads and highways across the province, under which the authority will carry out the construction of new toll plazas and field offices for PkHA and other operational works, and rehabilitation of flood-affected roads,

The Council also approved the provincialization of four different roads – including 35 km Sheringal Patrak Road, 126 km Topi Buner Road, 85 km Thakot Darband Road and 61 km Bannu Miranshah Road, to ensure better maintenance through proper management.

In addition, the dualisation of two road projects – including Bannu – Miranshah Road and improvement of Thal – ParaChinar Road to be completed with a total cost of Rs8.6 billion. The authority under the annual development programme (ADP) will also work on six highway projects at a total cost of more than Rs6 billion while

The Authority was directed to submit a detailed report covering the total funds allocated and utilised under the Maintenance Plan of the last financial year.
