The project is conceived as a remedy to serious and frequent incidents involving oil tankers. Particularly, after the deadly tragedy of Ahmedpur Sharqiya 2017, the reliable and efficient transportation of oil products across the country was a much needed task.

The project has three sections: Machike-Chak Pirana (135-km), Chak Pirana-Rawat (117-km) and Rwat-Tarujabba (175-km) to transport oil products like HSD and MS oil from Machike to Taru Jabba via Chakpirana and Sihala depots, joining the pipeline from Karachi to Peshawar.
