Multan: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the Multan Avenue development project under the “Prosperous Punjab, Restored Roads” initiative, marking a key milestone in the province’s infrastructure modernisation drive.
The 9-kilometre-long Multan Avenue—stretching from Sydanwala Chowk to Sahoo Chowk—aims to improve traffic flow, boost business activity, and enhance the city’s urban landscape.
Commissioner of Multan Division Aamir Karim Khan, who laid the foundation stone, said the Rs2.89 billion project is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2026, though the Highway Department has been instructed to finish it by March 23, 2026, to minimise public inconvenience.
Divided into eight construction packages and managed by three contractors, the avenue will feature 206 modern streetlights, 34 monuments, 50 smart parking zones, an 8.5 km service lane, and a 5 km parking area. A 14.5-foot-wide green corridor will also be developed alongside the road, incorporating RCC drains, footpaths, central medians, and modern lighting to promote a cleaner and greener environment.
Commissioner Khan said the project reflects CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision for a safe, sustainable, and modern Punjab, providing citizens with a dust-free, eco-friendly, and well-planned urban experience.
Senior government officials, civil society members, and media representatives attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The project is expected to significantly enhance urban mobility and economic activity in Multan once completed.
