KARACHI: The most affected areas from the current monsoon, Surjani Town of Karachi, received a record of 164.9 millimetres of rain. With the new spell of rain forecasted, the people there say they are afraid that with thunderstorms in the coming days, the worst may still be yet to come.
The residents have complained about being surrounded by water for four days and have been facing difficulties. To make matters worse, there has been a complete collapse of the sewerage system that has mixed with the rainwater and floodwater in the area.
In addition to this issue travelling to others, areas have been impossible due to the difficulties faced. The stench from the accumulated water has been unbearable, along with too many mosquitoes which will cause diseases.
The residents have been unable to get fresh supplies for everyday use. With more rain in the forecast, residents have stored up rations in case they all get waterlogged again.
With the collapse of the area’s sewerage system, some residents have dug up ditches outside their homes to pour in the dirty water.
