Pakistan and Japan to explore potential for bilateral cooperation

ISLAMABAD: According to a statement issued by the PM Office on Monday, the Special Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Prime Minister of Japan Kentaro Sonoura, called on Prime Minister Imran Khan to discuss bilateral relations and regional development.

The adviser relayed the interest of Japan to assist socio-economic uplift in Pakistan through water resource management, export promotion, polio eradication and an increase in agricultural productivity.

During the meeting, the premier underlined his government’s focus to boost economic growth through investment-friendly, development-centred and people-focused policies.

He emphasised the significance of Pakistan and Japan’s mutually-beneficial cooperation, particularly in the fields of tourism, education, agriculture, industry, investment and trade among various others.

He appreciated the signing of the memorandum of cooperation (MoC) on a skilled workers programme and added that it would benefit the economies of both countries.

Prime Minister Khan also apprised of the human rights violations and humanitarian situation in occupied Kashmir and risks posed to the stability of the region incited through India’s belligerent stand on the territory.
