
Islamabad: In regards to the up-gradation of the Mainline-1 (ML-1) railway track from Karachi to Peshawar, Pakistan Railways (PR) has prepared a Project Concept I (PC-1) of Rs380 billion.
Approval for the respective PC-I will be sought from the Planning Commission next month. Moreover, an allocation of Rs50 billion in the next year’s financial budget will be requested by the Railways Ministry.
From a total of seven railway projects linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), ML-1’s initial design is expected to cost Rs10.64 billion. The ground-breaking for ML-1 up gradation work will be held in December.
Apart from this Rs130 million have been locked down for the feasibility report of a new rail track from Gwadar to Mastung and Jacobabad. Another Rs4.54 billion have allocated for 18km Gwadar railway track land purchase.
This meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Railways was presided over by convener Kenneth Williams.
