
Prime Minister Imran Khan formally inaugurated the opening of the Torkham border crossing for round-the-clock use on Wednesday.
At the inauguration ceremony of the Integrated Transit Trade Management System, the PM was accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan. The ceremony was further briefed on the border terminal.
Prime Minister Imran, while addressing a press conference, said that opening of the border crossing for 24/7 will facilitate trade in the region, as the trial period had resulted in a 50% increase in trade with Afghanistan.
He further added that Peshawar will be transformed as a regional hub of business activities, which in turn will generate employment opportunities. As soon as peace is achieved in Afghanistan, the region will be transformed. This will accommodate the trade activities to reach as far as Central Asia.
