The assessment, carried out under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, involved a detailed mapping and inspection by the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to verify compliance with anti-smog and clean air regulations.

According to the findings, 108 brick kilns were inspected across the Motorway corridor — 71 of which are operating with modern zigzag technology that emits white smoke and complies with environmental benchmarks, while the remaining 37 kilns were non-operational and smoke-free. The EPA reported that none of the sites required sealing, demolition, fines, or legal action.

Each site inspection was supported by photographic evidence, complete with timestamps and GPS coordinates, officially designating the Motorway zone as Punjab’s first area to achieve full environmental compliance.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb praised the EPA’s efforts, calling the milestone a “realization of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Clean Air, Healthy Punjab vision.” She noted that the widespread shift to zigzag kiln technology has significantly reduced emissions and strengthened anti-smog measures across the province.

Aurangzeb emphasized that the EPA’s strategy focuses on reform and cooperation rather than punitive enforcement, highlighting the role of scientific monitoring and community engagement in achieving sustainable progress.

She also extended appreciation to kiln owners and local communities for their partnership in promoting eco-friendly practices, adding that the Motorway’s success will serve as a model for other regions as Punjab advances its environmental reform and clean air initiatives.
