Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has introduced strict safety measures for all construction sites under its jurisdiction, following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman.
Under the new instructions, all construction sites must be properly fenced or barricaded, fitted with functional CCTV cameras and provided adequate lighting during night hours. Safety signboards will be mandatory, and workers will be required to strictly follow approved safety protocols and standards.
RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza directed relevant departments to carry out regular inspections to ensure compliance. She warned that violations will result in legal action, including fines and sealing of sites found breaching safety requirements.
Murtaza said protecting the lives and property of both the public and labourers remains a top priority, stressing that developers, contractors and site managers will be held responsible for implementing safety measures.
The RDA also urged citizens to report emergencies or safety issues at construction sites through its helpline at 051-9334904. The move aims to strengthen safety standards amid rising construction activity and increased public movement near development zones.
