The issue arose when Justice Umar Ata, heading a three-judge Supreme Court bench took up a case relating to the rights of the disabled.

Punjab’s Additional Advocate General (AAG) Chaudhry Faisal Hussain told that a letter had been written to Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on April 26 with a request to allow submission of documents, including applications, before the Supreme Court in Braille. He said that submitting of reports in the Braille format was possible and could be done without any hurdle.

The absence of any provision in the Supreme Court Rules 1980 to accept any documents or applications in Braille is a problem for the visually impaired.
