Sindh Accelerates Jam Sadiq Bridge Completion for Yellow Line BRT

Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced that construction of the Jam Sadiq Bridge—an integral part of Karachi’s Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)—is moving ahead of schedule and expected to finish earlier than planned.

The new bridge has been designed to include dedicated lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, with one corridor reserved for the Yellow Line BRT and the remaining lanes open for regular traffic. Once the bridge is operational, the old Jam Sadiq Bridge will be demolished and reconstructed with the same design.

During his visit to the construction site, accompanied by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin and Yellow Line Project Director Zameer Abbasi, the minister reviewed the progress. He added that depots for the Yellow Line are also under development and stressed that the World Bank–backed project will provide modern, efficient transport solutions for Karachi.

Memon further noted that the central corridor of the Red Line BRT is also advancing rapidly, with completion expected by December. In addition, he announced that double-decker and electric buses will be launched in Karachi next month, while the distribution of free pink scooters for women—along with training and driving licences—will begin later this month as part of a women’s empowerment initiative.

Highlighting broader government initiatives, the minister pointed to projects such as the Apni Zameen, Apna Chhat housing scheme, solar panel distribution, and land allotment for the landless, all being executed on the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He also shared that a recent World Bank delegation had expressed satisfaction with the pace of Yellow Line BRT work during a meeting with the chief minister.

On Shahrah-e-Bhutto, Memon clarified that maintenance has been assigned to a private company under the public–private partnership model, ensuring no burden on the provincial exchequer.

He concluded by offering prayers for the recovery of senior PPP leader Khursheed Shah, noting that his health is improving.
