A long-awaited matter has been resolved between the provincial government of Sindh and the Naval Cooperative Housing Society (NCHS) after the Sindh government gave the approval for the allotment of 200 acres of land to Naval Cooperative Housing Society (NCHS). The permission has been granted for the construction of a residential scheme on ‘Lal Bakhar’s Deh’ – a land near Kemari, Karachi.
The provincial cabinet headed by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah gave the approval for allotting 200 acres of state land to NCHS after a thorough consultation with the concerned departments of the provincial government.
Earlier, the matter was being reviewed by a committee established by the Sindh government to look into the legalities pertaining to the allotment of the land for private purposes. The committee included Chief Secretary Sindh and Advocate General for reviewing the matter.
Amidst all the legalities, the Land Utilisation Department and Board of Revenue department had taken the stance that allotment of state land for private purposes can not be given prior to putting the matter in the provincial cabinet.
However, the Land Utilisation Department had maintained that the project can be given a go-ahead if the provincial government gives approval for the land acquisition. It is the prerogative of the Land Utilisation Department to manage the state’s land, collect revenues, and other duties on the state’s land.
Prior to this, the matter had also been litigated in the Islamabad High Court by Chief Justice Atharminullah which thereafter reached the provincial cabinet The land has been allotted on a concessional basis which will be used for the construction of residential housing society.
The case has passed through the gaze of various public departments, Pakistan Navy had also reminded the provincial government of Sindh to look into the matter.
