Sindh govt approves contract worth Rs39bn for Malir Expressway

KARACHI: While presiding over a meeting of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy Board, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced to award the construction contract worth Rs39 billion for Malir Expressway to a consortium.

Minister for Health Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Planning and Division Board (P&D) Chairman Mohammad Waseem, PSCM Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi, Secretary Local Government Roshan Shaikh, Secretary Works Imran Atta Soomro, PPP Unit MD Khalid Shaikh, NED VC Dr Sarosh Lodhi and others relevant officials also attended the meeting.

After appraising the Malir project, the committee was informed of Technical & Financial Evaluation Committee (TFEC) being constituted to conduct the procurement process for the project.

After TFEC approved bidding documents under single-stage procurement process, a consortium of four companies was formed after the bidders submitted the lowest bids in repose to the advertisements published in local and international newspapers.

Starting from Korangi Creek Avenue (DHA) and ending at Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-9) near Kathore via existing link road, the 38.75km Malir Expressway has been designed as a three into three-lane expressway with six interchanges that will provide speedy access to commuters.

The project will facilitate the flow of traffic of Karachi Port, Korangi Industrial Area, Landhi Industrial Area, Steel Mills, Port Qasim and other areas towards upcountry through the National Highway and M-9 Motorway.
