
KARACHI: The provincial government, on Tuesday, announced that Sindh will conduct a Karachi Property Survey in order to increase the tax base.
Presently, the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department receives the tax income from the cities of Karachi, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad and Larkana. The total tax collection from these cities is Rs1.679 billion.
Karachi contributes Rs1.52 billion to the tax revenue, Hyderabad Rs77.334m, Sukkur Rs37.501m, Larkana Rs23.470m, Mirpurkhas Rs11.197m and Shaheed Benazirabad Rs10.241m.
As per reports, the last property tax survey was conducted in 2001 under the regime of then-president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf.
