KARACHI: The prices of cement and steel have surged as the manufacturers increase the purchasing cost.
The new prices of steel bars were increased by Rs5, 000 per ton to Rs128, 500, adding to a cumulative increase of Rs18, 000 per ton within the last one-and-a-half months.
Similarly, the cement prices were also increased by Rs45 to Rs625 per 50 kg bag in the last two months.
The data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) highlighted a drop of 23 per cent in the local sales of the cement, whereas the overall exports of cement witnessed a plunge of 12 per cent.
The hike in the prices of both steel and cement will also negatively impact the construction activities nationwide.
